Hee, hee, people are ASKING FOR a controlled vocabulary

From lifehacker.com (note the crappy copy paste job and lack of reformatting.)

This is from lifehacker’s post on Get[ting] Only the Posts You Want from Lifehacker’s Site Feeds

I like, especially, how the response says: yeah, we know the tags in the past are not consistent. But we’re consistent now, and will continue to be so.

Would a librarian help or hinder? “we need to re-analyze each of your thousands of posts and apply a controlled term.” um…… no.

I don’t mean to call you out on the carpet or anything, but there are some tags that could easily be combined, here. I’d posit that you can get rid of half of your tags with some minor effort. It’d make this feature–which is awesome–a helluva lot more usable.

My unsolicited 2ยข.

Image of Gina Trapani BY GINA TRAPANI AT 02:36 PM @It_Figures: Yeah, it’s true, the unintended effect of lack of tag suggest when we compose posts, several editors over several years, and a few changed minds about how we tag stuff. But the ones in the post? Those won’t change (without notice, anyway.)
